187: Introducing Metrique Solutions

For years I have been asked to write a book. And while I have co-authored a book and enjoyed that process, I felt like there was something else I was supposed to put out into the world. Today I want to introduce you to Metrique Solutions. A software application that will help you make financial decisions in your business in just minutes a month. On this episode I will share with you the origin of Metrique Solutions along with the problems it solves. I am excited – so let’s get to it.

If you are a long time listener, you might remember that I began my adult career working in financial software at Dun and Bradstreet back in the 80s where I focused on financial applications such as AP, Purchasing, Inventory, GL and Project Accounting. This work set the tone for all that I have done over the last 30+ years of business from teaching pricing classes, financial literacy classes and Profit First classes to all the handouts and spreadsheet and KPI tracking I have been sharing. It is impossible for me to separate that work from what I currently do now even though the platform is different. 

My Why as I shared in my origin story of Scarlet Thread Consulting in Episode 170, is to equip you and encourage you to use your gifts and talents to take care of your family and those you love. And to do that, we all need help from others. This help may come in the form of ideas that we gather from reading or listening or it can come from a tool that we use in physical form or digital form. 

For years I have been creating spreadsheets to support my educational and coaching offerings which brought clarity and additional understanding by looking at numbers and metrics in different ways. Just like I joke that my to-do list has babies at night, my list of spreadsheets is long and wide.  

Over the last 9 years of focused coaching, I kept searching for a program that had already been created which offered these same things that I was creating. Just like when I found the Profit First book and it was a system very close to the one I was using, it made me happy and I just got on board with it. I reached out to many software application owners to see if I could assist. Some took me up on it and others did not. Over time, I realized that those programs had a different focus than the one I was most closely tied to. My focus was on overall company financials and company strategy – much more than just the transactional nature of financial software like QuickBooks.  

Once I settled the idea that what I wanted to see and share was not available for my market – I began to create it. Back in 2020, when the pandemic required us to think of business differently, I took the time to see how to give my clients a resource that would put them in the owner’s seat of their firm’s financials without an abundance of time spent to gather the data to do so. And with that, I met a developer who could bring my vision to life.  

In March of 2021 I offered a prototype to my private clients to try. They loved it. They could quickly see where they were to goal and budget as well as see how it compare to prior periods. Because what we built was visual in nature it made the numbers come alive. The flat black and white version we see on an income statement all of a sudden were in vibrant color. And it made sense. 

Immediately after launch we realized that an online application would be in our future and I set out to find the perfect team to help me do this. We began in April of 2021 building a solution for the industry that would help you decipher your financials in moments as compared to hours and days. A way to see it without waiting on your bookkeeper or accountant to explain it to you. And that, my friends, is a game changer. 

Metrique Solutions (spelled Metrique) is a software application that helps you measure what matters. Our vision is to allow business owners to see at a glance the information needed to know where they are and where they are going. We have a long roadmap in front of us for all we want to deliver, and we are absolutely giddy about getting it to market. 

This application is not a client project or product management system, and it is not a financial accounting system. Metrique Solutions sits between the two. We use the data captured and assimilate it together so that you can see the entire picture – then show it to you on a visual dashboard.

  • You can easily get a mini profit and loss looking at your major anchor points with profit first percentages.

To have this amount of data available with a couple of clicks of a button and quickly is amazing. When we asked how long this information would have taken to gather and formulate in this way, the answers were counted in hours and days, not minutes. 

Many of our early adopters said they had never seen their financials like this and did not previously know or understand the power of their financial story.
